USS JAMESTOWN was in drydock at Sasebo Japan around May or June of 1968 (Tom Walker in foreground).
The ship was in for some kind of repair to the propeller, noticeable is the scaffolding surrounding the forward mast which carried communications attenae etc.
Captain Forrester had requested more armament for the ship as we were serving double duty as floating base for PBR's and had only six 50 cal. machine guns.
Several larger weapons, I think 20mm and 40mm were brought aboard at Sasebo, but the installation was not accomplished before we were called back to duty in Vietnam.
When my tour was over in August the new guns were still lashed down on the port side over the officers mess area and not in service.
